The End of Summer

Swimming early on a cold autumn morning without a goal can be challenging. It’s hard finding the motivation to get out of a warm cosy bed. The open water swimming season is coming to an end, this isn’t going to stop me finding places to swim.

Swimming this morning without the weight of my own expectation was a joy. This morning I had no plan other than swimming for the sake of it. I wasn’t concerned about how far I swam or how long I was in there for. There was no point in only going in for a few minutes though, some habits are hard to break.

There’s always a moment which I know will be etched in my mind for a long time. As I swam around one f the big yellow buoys the morning sunlit the water beautifully. It was perfect. My first thought was, I wish I had my camera, this would look incredible on social media. Then I corrected myself, I had to earn this this view. If you want to enjoy moments like these get out in the water yourself. Instead, I took a mental snap which I add to all the other beautiful moments which I have experienced over the years.

I finished my swim pulled myself out of the water and slowly got changed. I didn’t rush I wanted to enjoy this time alone. Sitting enjoying that warm glow of effort in the sun I got myself sorted and headed home.
